Image of the Week - 31 Essential Objects, Neil Winokur
This week’s photograph is part of Neil Winokur’s 31 Essential Items series which I first came across at Janet Borden, New York. His everyday objects, which include toilet paper, bread, a shaving brush, corkscrew and Chinese take-out box, are placed within an almost disco-like light-emitting plastic coloured background. The objects have slight shadows so of course are physically placed for their portraits but also appear to be floating within the colour fields – almost like a sticker. The photographs are a mix of the aesthetics of poppy futurism and contemporary food or product photography.
